to a woman who was a recruiter for a US computer personnel
placing agency. What she, and others like her, has to offer is a
two-year
contract and a green card. In her five-day trip she had signed up a
hundred
senior computer programmers. SA, she said, was now her most fecund
hunting
ground, overtaking Australia, Israel, and India. A quarter of her
recruits were
black. All of them,......,recounted the same litany of motivations that
made them
leave SA: security, security, and more security."

"The drum of dread is not one that I wish to beat...........But fear, it
seems, is the most
potent currency of our time. It has now become the way in which
middle-class whites
tittilate themselves into believing they live a more exotic and dashing
life than that their
pleasant, but on the whole unremarkable suburban existence, might in
fact appear.
Tales of violence have become the new pornography in which episodes gain
in horror
at every hushed retelling, ...........We've all done it. But it has a
serious multiplier effect
on emigration.
In the murky world of emigration figures, where few emigrants declare
their real intent,
and holidaymakers simply don't return, some surprising trends are
already becoming
apparent. 'Nonwhite' emigration is one.
Another is that Afrikaners are scarpering at about the same rate as the
rest of the white
population. There are many myths about Afrikaners. People overseas still
tend to think
about the average Afrikaner, for example. in terms of the Anglo-Boer
war. They see him
galloping across the veld on a trusty bush pony with nothing but a sack
of biltong and a
bottle of mampoer in his saddlebag, and a rifle on his back. Some
Afrikaners themselves
have fallen for this mythology. In reality the average Afrikaner today
is probably living
in Randburg, worrying about security like everyone else."
